Honeywell Security to acquire Xtralis

Johnson Controls and Tyco to be merged

One of the biggest trends in the security industry in recent years among hardware vendors and service providers alike has been increased consolidation — as companies look to increase their share of the pie in a market that remains highly fragmented. On 25th January 2016, systems integration giants Johnson Controls and Tyco became the latest household names in security to join the growing list of companies that have come to embody this trend, as they announced plans to merge the two organizations.

Red-light cameras to be trialled on Moscow’s roads

Moscow is looking to clamp down on red light jumpers by trialling security cameras on a major interchange in the capital, Moscow’s Road Traffic Organisation Centre has announced. While only one camera will take part in the initial trial, there will be more if successful. The Moscow authorities are hoping for a similar result to New York, which reduced violations by 40% with well-placed cameras.

Leningrad Region to use drones in security provision

The Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Leningrad Region, home to nearly two million people, has announced it is trialling the use of unmanned drones to ensure security and safety in the region. The drones would mainly be used for search and rescue operations in the Gulf of Finland and in the remote forested areas of northern Russia.
