Red-light cameras to be trialled on Moscow’s roads

Moscow is looking to clamp down on red light jumpers by trialling security cameras on a major interchange in the capital, Moscow’s Road Traffic Organisation Centre has announced. While only one camera will take part in the initial trial, there will be more if successful. The Moscow authorities are hoping for a similar result to New York, which reduced violations by 40% with well-placed cameras.
“I think the trial will get a good reception from both professionals and the general public,” the RTOC’s director Vadim Yuriev told journalists. “This is about reducing the number of major accidents.”
