Domodedovo Airport completes first phase of security spending programme

Domodedovo Airport in Moscow is Russia’s second-busiest airport, and now it is arguably the safest – a $6 million spending programme has been launched to improve passenger flow, as part of a larger drive to boost security.

The money has been spent on providing extra passenger inspection and security posts at the airport, as well as buying new technology to enhance the thoroughness of the checks made by airport staff. Other new equipment includes new baggage scanners and full-body millimetre wave scanners that can detect metal, plastic and wood.

It is early days since the programme finished, but initial results show a 30% rise in passenger flows through the airport – all achieved without compromising safety.
